Generally you don’t want to exceed the manufacturer’s printed line weight suggestion on the reel. The reel is probably not designed to handle line heavier than 8lb test. If you want to use a heavier line, try using braid. 30 pound Power Pro braided line has the same diameter as 8 pound mono. In other words, your reel CAN handle 30 pound braid because braided line is significantly smaller in size than mono or fluorocarbon lines.
