Do airports let you bring hooks and lures as check in and rods as carry-on?


Yeah. Going to hawaii for break, and well, might as well check out the fishing there, as i’ve heard oahu has a nice peacock bass fishery.

What I want to know is…

I’m planning to bring my rod as carry-on, since it won’t fit in my bags and I cant find a special case for it. it’s 2 piece so I think it wont cause to much trouble the guy sitting next to me as I can just lean it against a window. I can’t buy a case because all the specialty shops are like 50+ miles away and we leave monday at 5 AM. But, If you bring a rod as carry-on, does it count towards the 2 carry-on items limit? and are you even allowed to?

Second, I’m not willing to shell out another 100 bucks or so just to fish. I was planning to bring my entire tackle box. Am I allowed to put it into my big bag and check it in? Is it also allowed as carry-on?

The best way to get answers to your questions is to check the baggage guidelines with the airline you have booked for your travel to Hawaii.

I don’t know which peacock bass (tucanare) fishery you are considering. Lake Wilson on Oahu boasts some good sized peacock bass when I fished there way back when; however, depending on what time of year you plan to be here, you may want to come when the water on the lake is high (best times are from April through end of October).

You’ll enjoy catching other fresh water fish in Lake Wilson: Blue Gill, Channel Catfish, Tilapia, Carp, Large Mouth Bass, Small Mouth Bass, Pungi (snakehead), Oscar, Rainbow Trout.
